Kube Lounge is an 8000 sq.ft. terrace lounge located in Andheri, Mumbai. Governed by a grid of concrete columns and beams this space was to set a trend of Open to sky Terrace lounge in Mumbai.

The client asked us to give a variety of functions which this place could host.

Along with the aesthetics we re-imagined the design to host exhibitions, stand up shows, theatrical space, modeling, tv shows, unplugged sessions, wall of artists work, etc.

The concept was to create the feel of hosting a party in the backyard of your own house. While planning the only challenge we faced was the existing concrete structure with a restricted height. It was essential to zone the 120 feet length with strategic insertions of materials and elements to emphasize on each function. We carved multiple spaces where material defined the ambience and framed visuals to the actual space.

Our primary material palette is of building materials in its raw nature. The idea to use these materials is to impose minimum maintenance and the beauty it exudes post weathering.  The strategic placement of the brick walls was to create a visual demarcation of the zones. The warmth of the brick deciphered various interpretations – doorway, window, seating, partitions with niches, landscape etc.

8” x 8” Concrete cubes were made by local artisans to give that undulated structured surface at the entrance and repeated at various junctions. The Concrete jali were reimagined as vertical trellis as a landscape feature. Each material added texture, play and forms in the space. The seating and lighting is primarily designed and made in Metal keeping in mind the weather and the sun.

The bar being the most important zone in a lounge we designed a 48 feet long bar in the center connecting various zones visually.

We created a variety of nooks and corner with a single flow of material palette for every mood, experience and event for the customer. Each seating style was particularly designed to let one choose a set that matches their mood or group they have come here with. The central zone is an open plan to allow flexibility for change during Events. This is a low lit zone to enjoy a starry sky. In addition to our many strategies, the varied light designs were also governing the seating and activities defined to the zone.

The central zone finally brings us to the most crucial element of the project. The cabanas. A group of 6 cabanas along the periphery, a private space that can host a gathering of 20 to 30 people each. It’s an elated space for a group to celebrate in privacy and yet be a part of the lounge vibe.

Since we were a part of this project from its birth to its success we have learnt that the true success of an architect lies in the success of their project. The success of the project is defined at the satisfaction of its users.
